Overview of the team

Community Money Advice is run by an employed staff team of ten (all part time, hours equal to 5.2 FTEs) supported by twenty two volunteers (working hours equal to 1 FTE), and overseen by five volunteer Trustees.

Senior Management

Community Money Advice is run by our National Director and founder, Heather Keates. Heather has spent 20 years working in the field of debt advice. As well as running CMA, Heather sat on the Consumer Indebtedness Working Group, looking at issues surrounding personal debt in the UK, and is in demand as a consultant. Heather helps to run a debt advice service in Shrewsbury.

John Franks is CMA's Chief Operating Officer, responsible for CMA services, projects and planning, along with the management of the CMA staff team. He has worked in a variety of senior operations and project management roles in both the retail and charity sectors, and joined CMA in 2007.

Staff Team

Rory Sanders is a member of the Institute of Money Advisers and has many years' experience as a qualified debt adviser, a manager and a trainer. Rory is responsible for CMA's Training Programme, is the Operations Support Manager for the North West & North Wales and runs a debt advice service in Congleton, Cheshire.

Richard Payne is the Operations Support Manager for S&E England. For many years the financial director of the Christian charity YWAM, Richard has run many community service projects and is an experienced, practicing debt adviser and manages a debt advice service in Harpenden.

Steve Bolton is the Operations Support Manager for London SE. Steve has many years experience in financial advice, as well as operations management, and has worked on a range of social action projects, including his additional field manager work for The Trussell Trust. He is now working with his wife Ann who runs a debt advice service in Watford.

Claire Daniels is the Operations Support Manager for NE England and the Social Media Manager. Claire has been involved in welfare benefits and debt advice for many years including both training and establishing advice centres.  She is a member of the Institute of Money Advisers, a qualified debt adviser and has an MA in Advice Practice and Social Policy. Claire runs a debt advice centre in Scarborough.

Duncan Harkness is the Operations Support Manager for the South West & South Wales. Duncan has many years experience as a face to face debt adviser, including establishing and managing money advice services. He has a BA in Advice Studies and currently runs a debt advice service in Cheltenham.

Stephen Curran is the Operations Support Manager for Scotland (CMAS). Stephen brings a depth of political experience, including a broad range of work in Scottish social action initiatives. Well networked within Scotland, he brings a thorough understanding of the needs of the nation and currently resides in Glasgow.

Jane Taylor is the Operations Support Manager for the East Midlands, with additional responsibility for Social Media. Jane trained as a pharmacist and worked in the NHS for many years, helping GPs manage their prescribing budgets. In 2014, she helped set up Cornerstone Money Advice, Nottingham, where she works as a voluntary debt adviser one day a week. Jane is a creative soul and when she's not working in her debt advice centre or for CMA, she runs her own lifestyle blog, Maflingo.com where she writes about money-saving tips, DIY, homes & interiors and creativity.

Kate Downward is the Head Office Administrator, managing administration, treasury, website and data management work from our Head Office in Shrewsbury. Kate has a wide range of administrative and financial experience from her work over many years as an external auditor with the Audit Commission, and she is also a debt adviser at her local debt advice centre in Shrewsbury.

Volunteers

CMA is further supported by Susan Robinson as Training Co-ordinator (and Trustee), a team of self-employed (CMA trained) Trainers, and five volunteers working as advisers to centre staff on the CMA Adviceline.

Trustees

Alan Edwards (Chair of Trustees) is an experienced debt adviser and advice centre manager who has been running Antioch Money Advice Centre at Salem Chapel in Colwyn Bay for more than 8 years.

Heather Keates (CEO & Trustee) has spent 20 years working in the field of debt advice. Currently, as well as running CMA, she manages a local advice centre in Shrewsbury.

Tim Jackson BA, ACA Previous finance director of a FTSE 250 company, Tim has experience in working with large teams to achieve sustainable growth within a business environment. He also manages a debt advice service in Rothley.

Andy Biggs (Trustee and Company Secretary) is a chartered Accountant who worked as finance director for a European Healthcare company. Andy's wife runs CMA's Durham debt advice centre and Andy is actively involved in his local fellowship and currently runs their worship team. He is also a non-executive director at Traidcraft. 

Susan Robinson having worked in the banking sector was stirred to train as a debt adviser in 2002. She managed a debt advice centre for many years and now works as volunteer Training Coordinator for CMA.
